What Crumpler, NC, is known for
The town for Crumpler, NC, is known for being a small incorporated town near the Virginia border in North Carolina with the North Fork New River weaving about the surrounding area. It’s also known as the place with “healing springs.”
In 1883, these “healing springs” were discovered by William Barker and his father. They both had poison oak on their hands and when they washed in the river, the soars were gone the next day. Many people came far and wide to seek the supposed healing benefits of the water. A hotel and spa was built in the area but burned it completely down in 1962.
It has stayed a small town for decades, but that doesn’t mean it lacks luster. It’s a cute southern area in the mountains that’s not like other areas. The New River is an attraction for out of town (and residential) guests.
